What are the steps involved in making Smart HTML?

1. All pages must go into the smarthtml directory
   
   http://www.websitenamecom.com/smarthtml/regular.html
   
2. In Notepad, or any HTML editor, you will edit your static HTML web page. Insert the Smart HTML code that corresponds to the item you want to display. In this code -
   You will designate the database
   You will designate the name of the item
   You will designate the description (optional)
   
3. FTP or publish the web page to www.YourDomainName.com into the smarthtml directory.
   
4. Go into the ShopSite back office, and click the "Publish" button. Check to see the pages published properly, and you can verify that the page was publishing by typing your domain address, followed by the name of the HTML page you made.

More explanation:

Notice that the Smart Tags update the prices, but the Order Anywhere tags cannot.  Therefore, if you decide to use OrderAnywhere, it will be up to you to keep the ShopSite database prices consistent with the prices hard-coded into the web-pages.  That is why Smart Tags are preferred, because after an update in the database, just hit PUBLISH and all the Custom Pages are updated automatically with the correct pages.

Also notice that the actual Custom Pages (with the Smart Tags on them)
must be uploaded and updated in the "smarthtml" directory.  When ShopSite publishes, it goes through this directory and automatically processes every page it finds in there.  The results of the processing is saved as the same filename as the custom page, but in the root web-directory.  That is why the published result is not in any sub-directory.

Order Anywhere tags will only add the link to the item in the shopping cart. If you change any database item information that is written on a page in your site, it will not update automatically. It will have to be changed manually. The pages are said to be static pages. 

Smart HTML or Smart tags will update any information you ask it to on the page you made. It changes them dynamically. Change the database information and the Smart HTML page changes instantaneously, the next time the pages is refreshed.
